War on Drugs Siphons Legal Sources from More Serious Crimes

This was an interesting interview.  Judge Jim Gray makes the point that the legal resources that get applied to the war on drugs are taken away from more serious and violent crimes, like murder, rape, and robbery.  That to me was the most persuasive point.  I'd still like to know where all the drugs that get confiscated go.  Do police departments burn it?  What do they do with the cocaine, with the marijuana, heroine, and so forth?  Do they sell it?  If so, then to whom?  Why is that question always evaded?
